Erratic Sleep Patterns

It happens to me every semester. My sleep patterns get totally out of control. For the past two weeks, I’ve slept at nearly 5 or 6 AM and woken up at 7 AM, when I decide to go to classes, and 1 PM, when I decide to not go to classes. You can guess which option I choose most of the time.

The strange thing is that my weird sleep patterns and habitual failure to go to class don’t dramatically affect my grades - I still do pretty well. I get bored in the lectures that I do attend, and I prefer learning out of books. I go to discussions, most office hours, and laboratories, though. I think those three have been the most worthwhile academic components of my college experience.

I wonder if there are any other students that feel the same way.

    The same thing happens with me . I sleep between about 4pm and midnight then stay up all night i dont get whats wrong i’m usually quite regular

    A similar thing happens to this 62 year old. I am unemployed, but I am attempting to come back to speed as a computer systems analyst by studying much of the free trial software avaiable. Thus I remain up all night and I am in poor shape for activities the next day. But if I am involved with daytime activities, I can quickly adjust my sleep patterns to normal times, until I remain up all night, working on my computer. I thought something was wrong with me. Now I have discovered I am an “anytime” person. No longer am I just a “Morning person or an Night owl.
    This phenonun happed after I returned from three years of living in China. Of course my bio rithyms were switched, perhaps permanently.
    I am now less concerned, but I would like to apply my new abilities to someything useful. I don’t want to be a security guard, but perhaps an astronaight would be great.
