A similar thing happens to this 62 year old. I am unemployed, but I am attempting to come back to speed as a computer systems analyst by studying much of the free trial software avaiable. Thus I remain up all night and I am in poor shape for activities the next day. But if I am involved with daytime activities, I can quickly adjust my sleep patterns to normal times, until I remain up all night, working on my computer. I thought something was wrong with me. Now I have discovered I am an "anytime" person. No longer am I just a "Morning person or an Night owl.
This phenonun happed after I returned from three years of living in China. Of course my bio rithyms were switched, perhaps permanently.
I am now less concerned, but I would like to apply my new abilities to someything useful. I don't want to be a security guard, but perhaps an astronaight would be great.
